(12/06/01)Two trains collided early Thursday in Brazoria County.
The train collision happened around 6:45 Thursday morning, two miles southwest of Sweeny. A Union Pacific train traveling northbound and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train traveling southbound on Union Pacific tracks collided. Four locomotives as well as roughly between 8 and 10 cars derailed near Highway 332 and 524. The accident was no threat to the surrounding area.

Hazardous material placards were on some of the cars but those cars were found empty. There are no injuries.

Officials are using Highway 332 as a makeshift command post for some of the police officers and heavy duty trucks that will be arriving.
